"Cultivating Courageous Conversations"

  • The University of Redlands 1200 E. Colton Ave. Redlands, CA 92373. (map)

In this workshop, k-12 and higher education instructors are encouraged to think about the language they use when talking about students with dis/abilities, students who are gender non-conforming, students who are advocates and/or allies of the LGBTQIA+ community and students representing minority groups-at-large. Instructors are given an opportunity to self-reflect through writing, and discuss with each other, their awareness (or lack of) pertaining to their own privileges and/ or subjugations they bring to their classrooms. They will then brainstorm with my guidance, ways in which they can strengthen their pedagogy and praxis as it relates to equity, language and student-centered security in their classrooms.
